  Romanticism vs. Realism         Romanticism and Realism both came about in the 1900’s and they were greatly influenced by the Industrial Revolution.   Romanticism artists set out to try to portray their emotional connection to the world around them. While Realism artists wanted to create scenes of the world around them with great accuracy. Romanticism           Romanticism paintings were often created out of pure fantasies. Artists wanted to show emotion and feelings within their works. They also were free to express themselves in any way they wanted and were able to use their imaginations. In the beginning of Romanticism, the paintings focused on seascapes or landscapes and included people and animals.   Morality and the Art of the Classical Era      The Classical Era consisted of the Rococo and Neoclassical styles of art. Many great art pieces came from this period. There were many changes going on during this era throughout Europe and America. Two of which were the French Monarchy and the creation of the United States. Through the period of Enlightenment there was an emphasis put on reason, intellect, and secular concerns. There was also an emphasis on the common man and less on religious undertones.   The School of Athens Art analysis Raphael, School of Athens , 1509-1511, fresco (Stanza della Segnatura, Palazzi Pontifici, Vatican)  Image Source, Khan Academy Raphael Sanzio da Urbino, or Raphael, born 1483, was an Italian renaissance painter and architect. Raphael was born in Italy and his father was a painter for the Duke of Urbino. Giovanni, his father, taught Raphael painting techniques and humanistic philosophy. At 11 years old his father died, and Raphael took over for his father and quickly became known as the finest painter in town.         In 1500, Raphael became an apprentice to Pietro Vannunci in Perugia, Italy. There they worked on frescoes at the Collegio del Cambia.   He interned with Pietro for four years and ended in 1504 when Raphael moved to Florence and was greatly influenced by the works Italian painters such as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo.  My name is Lisa Hawk and I live in North Pole, Alaska.  I am married and have a 16 year old daughter and 10 year old son. I work full-time and go to UAF full-time. I love anything to do with animals. I raise chickens, have 2 guinea pigs, a dog named Otis, lots of fish, and keep bees.  Lately I do not have much of a connection to art, as I do not have much spare time. I use to paint murals for my kids when they were younger. I do not really own any art. I have a copy of the painting above and also of the starry night painting.
